Life Lessons

I spent part of the day with my father-in-law Jay today.  He was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer about a month ago.  When I first walked into his hospital room I had to do a double take.  I couldn't believe it was him lying in the hospital bed looking so weak, tired, and thin.  But in those weary eyes I saw more than a sick man, I saw a man with a powerful spirit and a drive to keep fighting.  He was making jokes with the nurses and was in good spirits today.  He is taking enzymes that are ground up pig pancreas and when he was talking to the doctor he started snorting just like a pig.  Even though he feels miserable he keeps smiling the best he can.  I am proud to call myself his daughter and to be a part of his family.  I see where my husband gets his work ethic and his ability to keep going even when things are hard.  Today I feel especially blessed to have him in my life and to see the love so many people give in so many ways.
